Once again, almost 1 million UK taxpayers have missed the 31 January deadline for filing their self-assessment tax return. If you are one of these 8% of tax payers then HMRC will be sending you a £100 fine very shortly.
Continued delays will mean higher fines. From 1 May the fine increases by £10 a day - upto a maximum of £900. If the return isn't submitted before 1 August then an extra penalty of 5% of the tax due or £300 , whichever is greater, will be charged. If you delay a whole year then there'll be another charge on top of a further 5% of the tax due or £300, whichever is greater.
So if you haven't submitted your self-assessment tax return for 2013-14 then don't delay but call Katy today at Pemberley Accounting on 07810 518812.
