The government has launched a new business information website, gov.uk, to replace Businesslink.co.uk and directgov.uk. It is designed to act as a one-stop shop for financial and business advice ranging from how to set-up in business to filling in your tax return.
Launched in October 2012 the website has received a lot of criticism from business advisers who claimed that the site initially contained elementary errors as well as being too simplistic and omitting key information needed to comply with laws and government regulations.
Despite the criticism of gov.uk the government has confirmed that the existing HMRC website will also be migrated to gov.uk during 2013. Despite its rather clunky design and limited search facility the HMRC website does at least provide detailed information on tax compliance which is essential for tax payers and their advisers. Users are hoping that the problems with the initial transfer of business information to gov.uk are not repeated when HMRC’s tax information is moved over.
