Recent reports throughout the printed press, TV, radio and on-line media have identified that many older people may be over-paying tax because they have not claimed all the allowances to which they are entitled.
Amysas Morse, head of the National Audit Office, said "Older people want to pay the right amount of tax but many pay more than they need to because they do not claim allowances to which they are entitled and because of errors."
Checking that age-related tax allowances and allowances for certain of savings are being received are two simple ways of helping to ensure that older people are paying the right amount of tax.
